Pirates of the St Lawrence versus New Edinburgh of Ottawa
Sunday 8 August 2010
Pirates of the St Lawrence were cruising for a bruising against New Edinburgh of Ottawa on Sunday, only to be saved by the drizzle at Rideau Hall. For the first time in limited overs’ history, the team batting first declared, on 212 for 3, in less than 28 overs. The Pirates dropped 10 catches in the innings, sustaining several broken fingers.
Thomas and Mashi did the main damage for the Senators, swatting 21 boundaries between them. It was a horror story for the Pirates in the field.
Chasing 213 with the full complement of 40 overs seemed a stiffer task when Barker was bowled for a duck. Horne and Bell could do little but block in the face of some ferocious, accurate bowling.
Horne fell caught behind to what was probably an above-waist no-ball. Milot and Bell, requiring 176 in 23 overs, talked up their chances of another hundred partnership. Alas, with the partnership on 3, the rain came. Milot and Bell were left to score the next 97 runs in the nets.
