Pirates of the St Lawrence v Adastrians Juniors

A resounding first win by Pirates of the St Lawrence CC has sent shockwaves through the Quebec cricket community, as Adastrians Juniors were beaten by 7 wickets on Sunday at the Candy Fields.

Put into field first, the Pirates made a steady start with the new ball thanks to openers Nick Wigley and Austrian Strangler, Amrit Sanger. A spate of ludicrous calls of wide threatened to blight proceedings, but captain Red Rag Bullivant put the 17-year-old opposition skipper and his umpires in their places.

Adastrians were 71 for 1 at drinks on 15 overs, and promptly fell on the self destruct button at the resumption, thanks to some excellent catching and field placings. They lost their next 8 wickets for 30 runs in 14 overs, and were bowled out for 101 (including 30 wides).

Opening batsmen Steady Eddy Palmer and Trying Scotsman Angus Bell spanked 45 for the first wicket. Debutant Chris ‘Billy Badass’ Badman, coming straight off the boat from Adelaide, smote 20 in quick-time to take the Pirates to the finishing line. A slight wobble in search of the last 8 runs saw the Pirates lose 2 wickets, and they were fortunate not to lose more, but a thumping 7-wicket victory sets the team up nicely for the rest of the season.
